Marlo (Charlize Theron) has just given birth to her third child and is not getting much help at home from her husband, who is busy with an important and demanding work project. When she is completely burned out from fatigue, her wealthy brother offers to pay for a nanny to take over at night so that she can sleep. At first Marlo is skeptical of the idea, but soon the amazing Tully (Mackenzie Davis) rings the doorbell. Tully is full of presence and surprises and turns out to be made of a very special substance that gives the exhausted mother back her energy.
