If crisis or war comes...

...is the title of the famous brochure sent to every household in Sweden in 2018. The brochure has been distributed in various forms since 1943.

Here's what it says at the beginning of the brochure:

This brochure is sent to all households in Sweden on behalf of the Government. The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) is responsible for the content. The brochure is intended to help us be better prepared for everything from serious accidents, extreme weather and cyber-attacks to military conflicts. Many people can feel anxious in an uncertain world. Although Sweden is safer than many other countries, there are threats to our security and independence. Peace, freedom and democracy are values that we must protect and strengthen every day. Authorities, county councils and regions, municipalities, companies and organizations are responsible for ensuring that society functions. But the responsibility for the safety and security of our country is shared by everyone who lives here. One of our most important assets when something threatens us is our willingness to help each other. If you are prepared, you will help the whole country cope better with a difficult situation.What would you do if your life was turned upside down? A crisis can make society not work as we are used to. A changing climate could make floods and forest fires more common. Events in the outside world can cause shortages of certain foods. Disruptions in key IT systems can affect electricity supply.

After just a short time, everyday life can become difficult: the heat disappears. It becomes difficult to cook and store food. Food and other goods may run out in shops. There is no water in the tap or toilet. You can't refuel. Payment cards and ATMs will not work. Mobile networks and internet do not work. Public transport and other transportation is at a standstill. It will be difficult to get medicines and medical equipment.

Think about how you and the people around you can cope when normal services are not functioning as usual.

With this in mind, we want to offer a range of products that can help your household in such a situation. It is not about creating anxiety or fear but it can be good to be prepared for a situation where the amenities we are used to are not available for a certain period. A little food, water, first aid and a simple shelter such as a tent and/or sleeping bag will go a long way in the event of an emergency. The most important thing is to ensure that the basic needs (supplies + shelter) are met, then you can add to your arsenal if you wish.
