The Kite Runner is a debut novel by Khaled Hosseini published in 2003, which was adapted into a 2007 film, and tells the story of Amir, a boy from Afghanistan whose guilt over abandoning his friend Hassan drives him to seek redemption by returning to a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. The narrative spans Afghanistan's turbulent history, from the fall of the monarchy through the Soviet invasion and the rise of the Taliban.
