The Nazi War Machine of WWII
This is the story of the rise of the Nazi war machine. German soldiers with roots in the Freikorps and street gangs gathered in the Soviet Union to train and create a secret army, unsupervised by the victors of World War I. Featuring portraits of units such as the Panzer Corps, the powerful Luftwaffe and the feared SS, this box set delves into the military force that developed into a reign of terror in Europe during World War II.
Disc 1: Dass Heer
The German army evolved from the Sturmabteilung (SA), a paramilitary organization operating under the German Nazi Party, to the Panzer Division and finally to the great loser of the battle.
Disc 2: Die Luftwaffe
The German air force, its tactics and its lessons from its involvement in the Spanish Civil War are interwoven with Herman Göring's Panzer Division and the anti-aircraft gun groups.
Disc 3: Die Kriegsmarines
The German navy consists of enormous battleships, but the enemy also lurks below the surface, as the submarine warfare in the Atlantic proved.
Disc 4: Schutzstaffel (SS)
The paramilitary group SS grew rapidly and became one of the largest and most powerful organizations in Nazi Germany. Its members were the 'Nazi elite' - specially selected individuals whose Aryan genes supported the desire for a pure-blooded army and whose loyalty to Hitler could not be questioned.
Disc 5: Hitler Youth
In 1943, Nazi leaders began recruiting young men for the Hitler Youth. The organization became a military reserve from which manpower could be drawn from 16-18 year olds after Germany had suffered heavy losses in the first year of the war.
