A film adaptation of Väinö Linna's best selling novel The Unknown Soldier (1954) and the novel's unedited manuscript version, Sotaromaani.
This is the story of an infantry unit serving for more than three years during the Continuation War in Finland. The film is based on a classic by Väinö Linna. It shows how friendship, humor and the will to live create unity between the men on their way out and home. The war changes the lives of each of the soldiers as well as those on the home front, and it leaves its mark on the entire nation.
