From the rough and miserable streets of Paris to the dazzling spotlight of New York's most glamorous concert halls. Edith Piaf's life was a constant struggle to sing and survive, to live and love. She grew up in deep poverty, surrounded by prostitutes and pimps, and her magical voice made her a star on both sides of the Atlantic. Her passionate affairs and friendships with the biggest names of the time – Yves Montand, Jean Cocteau, Charles Aznavour, the boxer Marcel Cerdan, Malene Dietrich – made her nationally famous, as did her unforgettable live performances and beautiful interpretations of songs that made her famous all over the world: La Vie en Rose, Milord, Hymn to Love and many more. The film tells the life story of Edith Piaf, the Sparrow, as she was called, who in her bold attempt to tame her tragic fate came to fly so high that she burned her wings.
