The United States vs. Billie Holiday
Billie Holiday creates a sensation when she performs the song Strange Fruit, which is about lynching in the southern states of the United States. The concert halls are sold out, and the audience encourages her to sing the most controversial songs of the time. As a result, Billie Holiday is a growing political problem, and action is wanted from the highest places. The drug police know that Billie Holiday is a drug addict, and they want to use it to have her convicted and removed from the stage. Agent Jimmy Fletcher is assigned to monitor her, and he becomes more and more involved with the charismatic artist.
