Courage is the ultimate weapon
Defiance is the incredible but true story of three brothers who, during World War II, stand up to the massive German occupation force. The year is 1941, and the German war machine has conquered most of Europe. Jews are systematically murdered, and hope for a future in freedom is fading. The three Jewish brothers Tuvia (Daniel Craig), Zus (Liev Schreiber) and Asael (Jamie Bell) flee into the forests and begin to fight the German troops from there. Soon the story of their heroism spreads, and more people join them in a last desperate attempt to survive.
Tuvia becomes the group's thoughtful and reluctant leader, but his decisions are challenged by his brother Zus, who worries that Tuvia's idealistic plans will mean death for them all. The youngest of the brothers is caught between his brothers' fierce rivalry, and when a cold winter sets in, unity is threatened, and it becomes seriously difficult to keep hope and ideals alive. The film stars Danish Iben Hjejle in one of the leading roles.
