It Waits Silently Behind a Door
Ron Howard's film is about two brothers, both firefighters, who are trying to carry on the family tradition and learn to live with the memory of their father's tragic death. Brian McCaffrey (William Baldwin), who as a child saw his father die in a fire, returns to his hometown, Chicago, where he is accepted on probation as a firefighter under his brother, Fire Chief Stephen McCaffrey (Kurt Russell).
Stephen's tough and fanatical attitude towards good firefighting drives Brian to transfer to a less dangerous department under Fire Chief Donald Rimgale (Robert De Niro). He is on the trail of a cunning pyromaniac who specializes in creating smoke explosions.
Scott Glenn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rebecca DeMornay and Donald Sutherland also star. Backdraft is filmed by Danish director Mikael Salomon, who has really turned up the heat and created a breathless, realistic and frightening backdrop for the film's human drama.
